This is an unbelievable car, a genuine Aston Martin DB4 Series V Vantage with matching numbers, in truly outstanding condition having recently completed a program of work costing over £190,000. The car is running in since completion, and the work was undertaken on what was already a strong, sound useable example with an amazing full history from new warranting the mileage of 81,000. This original UK RHD car was delivered new on the 30th November 1962 to Vantage specification, with overdrive, 3.77 rear axle, Bray Block heater, heated rear screen and chrome wire wheels and supplied to its first owner by Aberfoyle Motors in Scotland to a Mr G Scarth in Aberfoyle, Perthshire.
185 XUK spent 23 years with its first owner, being sold in 1985 with a warranted mileage of 35000. A fabulous book of notes has been kept with the history, its first owner documenting every single job carried out on the car, every service and notable comment, with a mileage log too, all from 1962 to 1985. It was 1985 when the car finally left Scotland, making its way to Purley in South London having being sold by Chelsea Workshop. Between 1985 and 2011, the Vantage had four owners in the London area over the 26-year period. During the mid-1990's at 47000 miles the Aston Martin was subject of some major restoration work that included a mechanical overhaul, engine rebuild and major bodywork. All work is well documented in the superbly comprehensive history file dating back to new.
In 2011 the DB4 was sold by a leading UK Aston Martin specialist who spent in the region of £20,000 on various pre-sales preparation work on two occasions, the second time in 2015. 185 XUK was then sold to the most recent owner in North London who had the car delivered to an experienced Aston Martin restorer and a condition report is on file. The car was in very good, sound condition and had recently been used in a large-scale magazine feature. It was in very good condition throughout, but its new owner was and is an absolute perfectionist and having recently had a DB4 Series II and DB5 fully rebuilt to an incredibly high standard, he wanted this car to be the very best, and therefore authorised the most exquisite restoration to be carried out.
The rebuild commenced in early 2017 and the car was stripped down to a bare shell. The original Vantage engine was sent to World famous Aston engine builders RS Williams for a full complete rebuild at almost £40,000. All mechanical components were removed from the car and rebuilt/replaced as necessary, as was the whole electrical system, gearbox and overdrive, and the underside and engine bay totally stripped back and taken to show standard condition. The body was completely restored and beautifully re-painted with all ancillaries and glass removed, all brightwork was fitted as new, new Borrani wheels fitted and the interior completely re-trimmed to the highest of standards.
The Aston was treated to various upgrades to include a high power ignition system, high power alternator and starter motor, period radio with Bluetooth, high powered headlights, aluminium radiator, aluminium fuel tank, Kenlowe fan, uprated HBE handling kit, stainless steel exhaust system, full upgraded sound deadening, central locking system, RSW hose set and RSW oil cooler stainless pipe. The Aston Martin rebuild was completed in 2018, just 500 miles have been completed since and the car is quite simply exceptional in every respect. The attention to details is truly outstanding, the underside represents a brand new 1962 Aston Martin, the braking system, suspension, rear axle all look new, floor pans are like new, the whole underside appearance just wonderful. The under bonnet compartment is incredible and its original factory Vantage engine is first class in performance and appearance. The body is totally first class, as is paintwork, trims, chrome and upholstery.
This is something very special, without doubt the very best DB4 we have ever seen and of course being the Series V Vantage, makes this a truly wonderful find. This car has been finished to the highest level, is an ideal collectors' piece, worthy of any worldwide collection but also truly amazing to drive. It can be put on display at the highest level, but also driven, enjoyed, offering an outstanding driving experience. Behind the wheel of this car is a truly amazing feeling, it's incredible on every level and should certainly be driven and enjoyed.
